Recipe: Five-Spice Nuts

You can use any combination of nuts you'd like and these can be prepared in advance and store in an air-tight container for up to a week once cooked.


Ingredients

1 tsp ground cinnamon

1 tbsp five-spice powder

2 tbsp sugar

2 tbsp water

600g mixed raw nuts e.g. peanuts, cashew nuts, brazil nuts, and almonds

Cooking Method

Serves 20

1. In a small saucepan mix together the cinnamon, five-spice powder, sugar and water and place over a medium heat. When the sugar has dissolved remove the mixture from the heat.

2. Put the mixed nuts into a large bowl and then pour over the sugar mixture. Using a spoon, ensure that the nuts are fully coated in the sugar mixture.

3. Pre-heat the oven to 130°c and line a baking tray with greaseproof paper. Spread the nuts on the baking tray in a single layer and bake for 20 minutes, stirring once halfway through baking.

4. When the nuts are golden brown, remove from the oven and allow to cool completely before serving.

 

Note: these can be stored in an air-tight container for up to a week once they have been cooled.
