Recipe: Burnt Butter Sesame Biscuits

As a child my mother used to make this biscuit at Christmas and Chinese New Year. They are very easy to make and keep well in an airtight tin, you may even like to double the recipe and make extra to give away.


113g butter
113g castor sugar
142g self raising flour
1 egg
1 tsp vanilla essence
1 tbsp sesame seeds

Cooking Method

To Share

Melt butter and allow to brown

Cool slightly, add sugar and beat well.

Add egg, vanilla essence and beat again.

Add flour and mix well.

Roll the mixture into small balls about the size of a walnut, if mixture is too soft spoon onto tray using 2 teaspoons.

Place mixture on a baking tray allowing room for biscuits to spread.

Place a sprinkling of sesame seeds on top of each biscuit.

Bake in moderate oven for approximately 10-12 minutes.
