Cool Asian Cocktails

Dec 24 2014

Whether it's Christmas Eve or New Year's Eve, drinks packed with colour, flavour and fizz are essential to every seasonal party. Here is a selection of cool cocktails fit for any occasion.

Dragon Fruit Cocktail
Colourful and packed with vitamins, a Dragon Fruit Cocktail is a must at any seasonal celebration.

Ingredients:
3/4 dragon fruit (save the over 1/4 to garnish the glasses)
60ml light rum
30ml freshly squeezed lime juice
2 tbsp agave
Ginger beer
A small handful of crushed ice

Method:
Remove the outer part of the dragon fruit (the pink bit). Using the back of a spoon, mash the dragon fruit, lime and agave and place in a cocktail shaker. Add some crushed ice and rum and shake to combine all of the ingredients. Strain over a glass filled with ice and then add the ginger beer and stir. Garnish with a slice of dragon fruit.

Red Lotus Cocktail
The sweetness of the lychee is used to accent the cranberry in this cocktail, creating an interesting mix of flavours that is both sweet and refreshing.

Ingredients:
45ml vodka
45ml lychee liqueur
30ml cranberry juice

Method:
Pour the ingredients into a cocktail shaker with ice. Shake well and then strain into a chilled glassed filled with ice.

Mango Margarita
The classic Margarita is a combination of lime, tequila and triple sec in a salt-rimmed glass, but we love this mango version which is refreshing and just sweet enough.

Ingredients:
45ml tequila
45ml mango juice
15ml lime juice

Method:
Place all of the ingredients into a cocktail shaker with a handful of crushed ice. Shake well and strain the cocktail into a Martini glass.

Oriental Gin & Tonic
Give the traditional G & T an Oriental update by using a quality gin infused with lemongrass. Alternatively, simply garnish the drink with a sprig of mint, a lemongrass stalk and a slice of lime.

Ingredients:
1.5oz gin
3oz tonic water
Sprig of mint
Lemongrass stalk
Slice of lime

Method:
Pour the gin and tonic water over ice in a highball glass and garnish.
