Bank Holiday BBQ Basic Recipes Part 1 of 3

Aug 22 2014

Fingers crossed that the weather stays dry this Bank Holiday weekend, so you can get the BBQ out, invite your friends and family round, and enjoy the last of the summer sunshine!

Whether you want to spice up your alfresco favourites or explore new vegetarian recipes, our BBQ recipes will help show you the way this summer.

Sticky Sausages
Makes 24

Ingredients
340g chipolata sausages (approximately 12 sausages), cut in half
OR
340g raw cocktail sausages
2 tbsp honey
2 tbsp Wing Yip Sweet Chilli Sauce
1 tsp Wing Yip Light Soy Sauce
2 tbsp white sesame seeds

Cocktail sticks

Method for cooking on the BBQ
1. Prepare the BBQ and let the flames die down, and for the charcoal to go white, or set your gas onto a medium-high heat. Ensure that the BBQ grill plate is clean.
2. Whisk together the honey, sweet chilli sauce and light soy sauce, add the sausages to the bowl and mix well.
3. Carefully place the sausages onto the BBQ and turn every 2-3 minutes until they are cooked through. Approximately 10-15 minutes.
4. Once cooked, place onto a serving plate and sprinkle over the sesame seeds.
5. To serve place a cocktail stick into each sausage to prevent messy fingers.

OR

Method for cooking in the oven
1. Pre-heat the oven to 180c and line a baking tray with foil or baking parchment.
2. Whisk together the honey, sweet chilli sauce and light soy sauce, add the sausages to the bowl and mix well.
3. Spread out evenly onto the baking tray and pour over any remaining glaze. Sprinkle over the sesame seeds.
4. Bake for 20-25 minutes, shaking the tray at least once during the cooking period.
5. To serve place a cocktail stick into each sausage to prevent messy fingers.

Further Suggestions
Replace the sweet chilli sauce with hoisin sauce or plum sauce for great alternatives for those who don't like spicy food.
Cut the sausages into little nuggets or ball shapes, cook for 10-15 minutes and then add to pasta for a great alternative to paste and meatballs.
