    Mr Wing Yip arrived from Hong Kong

    Mr Wing Yip and business partners opened their first Chinese restaurant in Clacton-on- Sea. Due to its success, this was quickly followed by the opening of three other restaurants and one takeaway in East Anglia.

  • 1970's

    Wing Yip and his brothers opened their first specialist Chinese grocer in the heartland of Birmingham and then opened the Manchester store.
    Now, Wing Yip has four superstores in Birmingham, Manchester, Cricklewood (London) and Croydon which are landmarks in their local communities. Two further stores are planned for Cardiff and Nottingham.

  • 1980's

    Mr Wing Yip and Brothers founded the W Wing Yip & Brothers Foundation to encourage and provide financial assistance to students of Chinese origin, local and from overseas, to complete their studies in the UK.

  • 1990's

    Standing at 40 feet, the Wing Yip Pagoda was erected as a heartfelt gift from our family to the City of Birmingham to say thank you to the people of Birmingham, the city that provided a home for us, our families and the business.

  • 2000's

    Mr Wing Yip was awarded an Honorary Doctorate from Birmingham City University. He was also awarded an Honorary Degree from Aston University.

  • 2010's

    Mr Wing Yip was awarded an OBE for services to the Oriental food industry in the New Year Honours List, which was shortly followed by the a lifetime achievement award at the World Food Awards.

  • 2012

    Saw the expansion and re-development of the Birmingham Superstore and HQ. The ten acre site now boasts a larger store and brand new warehouse to support the online business at www.wingyipstore.co.uk
